The cure for negative body image

There are few people who have not been influenced by the images and stories from magazines and commercials. Many women have internalized ideas about the beauty ideal, leading to such things as shame, critical thinking, eating problems and more. For me (Rose) personally, too, this has controlled my life for many years.

The ideas of the beauty ideal often lead to a negative body image and constantly criticizing your body, making it difficult to feel at home and rest in it. In this blog you will read about what has been the medicine for me: body work or Sensual Yoga.

The thoughts about your body act as protection

Often all the ideas about how you should look are a defense mechanism (protection) against unprocessed pain. For example, "If I'm pretty enough, I can be there." "Or if I'm slim, I'll be loved." And endless variations of this kind that are constantly confirmed by the media.

These ideas give the illusion of control and thus prevent you from feeling what lives in the depths of your body of old pain and unprocessed experiences.

 

Why is Sensual Yoga so healing for negative body image?

Sensual Yoga helps you to start feeling your body again from the inside out. Starting to feel your body again helps in several ways.

  1. Sensual Yoga helps you to be more and more present with the sensations in your body. This increases your carrying capacity and allows you to give more and more bedding to your emotions. It becomes less and less necessary to find safety with the ideas in your head. Your body becomes an increasingly safe place to be.
  2. It helps you to start feeling how much the ideas and beliefs you have hurt. This is a very important step in self-love and will initiate change from within.
  3. By bringing presence, loving attention, movement and breath to blockages and flow in your body, more and more life energy starts to flow. Flowing life energy (shakti) is what makes you shine from within. You do not need confirmation from the outside or the mirror to feel from within how beautiful you are.

Reconnecting with your body goes one step at a time. Don't make this the next thing to accomplish and put a check mark behind it. But constantly reconnect in the moment with: what is there now?
